About the Pioneer's Club
The RG&E Pioneer's Club was started by RG&E in 1938 as a way of recognizing the contributions of long time employees with 40 years or more of service. Over the years the Club grew to encompass both retired employees and employees of thirty-five or more years of service.
In 2003 RG&E was sold to Energy East, a utilities holding company in Maine. Many things changed with that sale, including the company no longer sponsoring the Pioneer's Club or annual picnic. But the Club persisted, held together by a group of dedicated individuals who would not let it die.
Today the Pioneer's Club is a self sustaining labor of love. Run by a group of retirees who perform all the administrative tasks. It is open to all employees, both retired, active, and former, of RG&E. It's purpose is to provide a meeting place for both old and new friends.
