September Birthdays

There were only two members who left us this past month.

Unfortunately, they both were friends.

Arnie and I would like to thank you for helping to make this year’s picnic another success.

We had about 200 attendees this year and can guarantee everybody had a good time.

We had two representatives from Life Span that spent the afternoon answering questions and passing out literature. I don’t know about you guys, but I sure learn a lot.

I’d like to personally thank Molly Johnston for stepping up to the plate and volunteering to run next year’s picnic (with Arnie’s help.).

We are still having next years Picnic on the first Thursday in August and the date is reserved. If you have any suggestions for next year, her email is: MissMollyJohnston@Gmail.com

I’m sure that she would appreciate any comments or suggestion you have..

I got the following email from Julie after the picnic.—Tom

Tom –

Many thank to you and Arnie for allowing Gabriel and myself to attend the Pioneer Picnic a few weeks back. What a great turn-out you had! Many thanks to Arnie and Mrs. Stockslader for arranging the picnic and for all you did to get the word out! The Pioneers are very lucky to have you guys as leaders!

At the picnic I talked to many different people about a variety of topics – Medicare 101, Senior Housing, Volunteer Opportunities, our new Café inside the Maplewood and Gates YMCAs (and we’ll be in the Penfield YMCA soon too!) and handed out brochures and our program matrix. It’s important to note that we are adding to our programs all of the time and that you should call us with any aging or care giving issue! It’s very likely that we have a program or service designed for any aging or care giving issue you may face. But, if not, we will know where you can go for help and help connect you with that service. Please make sure your fellow Pioneers know this.

Finally, we’ve been talking about what to include in upcoming newsletters. Since aging is Lifespan’s specialty I thought it fitting to include info on the “Agewave” that you can share. Are you familiar with this term? Follow this link to learn more: http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2011/1107/focus-prophet-coming-aging-boom-ken-dychtwald-age-wave-adams.html. Basically, society is aging and there are more people over the age of 65 than ever before. I’m pleased to say that Lifespan is responding to the “agewave” and looking to expand the services we provide and add services that address the changing needs of older adults. I will share more details about how we are doing this as they are solidified and ready to go public. J

Thank you again for having me at the picnic and for including Lifespan in your newsletters.

They are at it Again

I have been getting emails like crazy lately. The topics are all the same, our pensions.

I can’t help you guys on this one. I took the lump sum when I retired. So I didn’t get “The Letter”.

I m a bit of a pessimist when it comes to the new RG&E, as you can tell from my takes on the health care issue.

There is a discussion group on our FaceBook page about this. Our Facebook page is open to any RG&E employee or retiree at “RG&E Pioneer's Club”.

All I can say is good luck.—Tom
