Armed Forces Club Stays True to Its Motto Remembering Coworkers at Memorial Day
The remaining members of the RG&E Armed Forces Club continue to be true to their motto of “Lest We Forget” as they and others gathered to remember their coworkers and fellow service men and women for Memorial Day observances. The ceremony was held Tuesday, May 27 at the RG&E Training and Operations Center, 1300 Scottsville Road.
Under bright blue skies, Ray Dunn read off the nine names of the RG&E employees who made the ultimate sacrifice during a time of war. Those men killed in action during World War II are Rayfield C. Ames, Bennie J. Berardi, William L. Davis, Robert E. Geck, Richard Law, Paul A. Nachtwey, Theodore Swoszowski and Charles Tobin. Peter D. Matarazzo was killed in action during the Vietnam War. The names of 26 retiree veterans who have passed away since last Memorial Day were also read in tribute to their service. The solemn observance included the presentation of the flag and memorial wreath, prayers offered by Lee Loomis and the haunting sound of Taps played by David Payne. Employees returning from service in World War II formed the Armed Forces Club in July 1945.
“On behalf of RG&E and Iberdrola USA, I am honored to take part in today’s event honoring Americans that have fallen in service to our country,” said Keri Glitch, vice-president, physical and cyper-security, Iberdrola USA. “We humbly thank you for your service and your sacrifices to make the world a safer place for our future generations.”
Eric Bell, executive director, information technology, Iberdrola USA, Mike Eastman, vice-president, gas operations, New York, and Walt Matyjas, director - electric distribution, New York also attended.
Editor’s Note: Rick is a volunteer for our local Honor Flight organization. He escorts our WWII vets on their trip to se the WWII Memorial. He’ll be looking for Korean War Vets soon. Great job Rick!

I have given some thought about information to share with your friends and former colleagues and I think highlighting our Health and Wellness programs would be best! Below is some information on two areas we are focusing on – Falls Prevention & Chronic Disease Self Care Management – that may be of interest. We hold these classes at various times in locations across the County (and sometimes beyond!). Please contact Lifespan’s Health & Wellness Coordinator, Kathryn Murphy, at 287-6439 to learn more and/or sign up.
Living Healthy - Lifespan offers Living Healthy workshops that are proven to help older adults better manage chronic conditions, improve quality of life and lower health care costs. Workshops, lead by trained coaches, meet once a week for six weeks. A Matter of Balance - Lifespan offers A Matter of Balance workshops that address the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. This includes eight two-hour sessions lead by a trained facilitator.

Tom ---- seeing your comments about your beautiful Rochester weather----
I was a participant for 60 years and being in Line Maintenance saw the worst.
If any retirees are contemplating a move to Southerly climes ? THIS IS A SHAMELESS PROMOTION !!!!
As you may remember, Gwen and I moved to Texas to be near our 2 eldest sons for support if needed----- We took an offer on our property to rent for one year and purchase February 1, 2014---- except it was all a sham and the renters took off in January ( and found that contracts mean very little !) It is now refurbished--- next week gets exterior paint---- in a gated community --Carolina Trace---- 2 Robert Trent Jones golf courses and a 300 acre lake--- security and a community pool---- Low taxes---- open design and all on one floor--- 2 car garage and workshop/ studio--- Carolina Room---- Good curb appeal and mature plantings (Azaleas, dogwoods , gardenias )
Can be seen on website for Sandhills Realty, Sanford NC---- Address is 6007 Cypress Point in Golf North Property Owners Association----- Sanford is designated as the western point of the Research Triangle-- 45 miles from Raleigh, 30 from Fayetteville and 35 from Pinehurst/ Southern Pines at the southern edge of the Piedmont and northern edge of the Sandhills---- A golfers paradise with at least 2 dozen EXCELLENT courses within 30 miles in addition to those on site.
Home is set in the woods---- can call agent Mary Ann Feavel at 919-499-3966---- or call me at 979-421-6122 or e-mail me at nynctx17@gmail.com for any information desired--- we lived there for 17 years after retirement and loved it ! Would still be there except for health concerns---- and I left out something VERY important------ The sun shines almost every day !!!!
Perhaps you know of a retiree contemplating a move ?--- This could be a help for both of us. Use this if you want or throw it away ! Thanks---- Dick Jacobs |

At the Bottom |
One of the really hard things to do is find something of interest to you guys every month to write about.
So how about helping me out.
Send me anything you would like to report to us (597 email recipients a month) and I’ll publish it.
Things like: Golf Leagues, Bowling Leagues, Fund Raisers (Tour de Cure).
Let’s face it. We’re a bunch of old Far..er people who like to do things. So let’s spread the word!
