This is your last reminder until next year! The Picnic is March 7, 2011 !

Please pass on that the event is scheduled for Monday, March 7, 2011 at Shelter #5, Lake Seminole Park, 10015 Park Blvd., Seminole, FL.  We expect to be set up to greet attendees by 10:00 a.m.  Those attending should bring their own food, drink and table serviceThere is plenty of table capacity within and outside the shelter.  For those so inclined, there are two large grills, each large enough for at least 6 people to cook at a time, located immediately adjacent to the shelter.  Charcoal for the fires and ice for any nonalcoholic drinks that attendees might bring will be available.

Those interested in enjoying more of the Florida sun may to bring lawn chairs.  You might also mention that sidewalks have been installed and the shelter has been extensively modified for handicap accessibility.

Everyone that can attend is encouraged to do so.  We look forward to seeing them.  It will be a great way to become reacquainted with many old friends.

Please note that this year you will need to bring your own food and drink. I hope you find the time to attend

I am pleased to announce that what started out as providing the Canandaigua Messenger with weekly photos has resulted in a strong fan base for wanting to see more of my wildlife photos. I love being in the field every day trying to capture that unique situation that for me might not be unusual but to the general public is. To that end I have now decided to sell my photos at my daughter in laws pottery studio in Canandaigua where she has excellent quality pottery, wood furniture and now my photos. Many of the photos at her studio have not been seen in the paper and represent my best work to date.

So if you are in the Canandaigua area, check out Coach Street Clay at 39 Coach Street in downtown Canandaigua, meet Kate Money and maybe even throw a pot!

Birthdays

So here are our March babies. If you wish your birthday listed, just drop me an email.

A group of 20-30 people meet on the first Tuesday of the month at Keenan’s Restaurant, Georgetown Plaza, East Ridge Rd (near Carter) at noon.

Being people after my own heart, they meet at the bar first before having lunch.

Besides the normal stuff this month, t this Luncheon Dave Kaspersin will tell the true story of The White elephant on the lake !

The new RG&E is trying to get the necessary permits to tear it down and sell the property. The old RG&E might have still demolished the buildings, but they would have probably donated the land  for public use.

D&C Reporter did a full page article on this action. To read it just follow the link: White elephant on the lake: RG&E no longer has any use for the Russell Station power plant near the Lake Ontario shoreline in Greece.  It’s an interesting article.

We hope to see you there.

Main Office Breakfast

As many of you are aware, they meet for breakfast bi-weekly on Wednesday mornings at the Dutchess Restaurant on Penfield Rd. I’m sad to say another restaurant has closed and the group is trying other breakfast venues.

Their March 23, 2011 meeting was held at  the Take-a-Break Restaurant’ located in the Piano Works Mall at the corner of Washington St and Commercial St in East Rochester.

I have not received a report for anyone attending if the location proved acceptable.  But on the other hand, I did not get a new location for their March 9, 2011 meeting.

The End of an Era

Last weekend I was watching one of the national news channels. They announced that the last living veteran of WWI passed away at 110 years of age.

Most of us have a grand parent or great grand parent whose lives were affected by this global conflict. It was called the War to End All Wars, unfortunately is wasn’t.

Because of the Armistice being signed ending this conflict, we “Remember” on November 11th at 11:00 every year.

Korean War

I received a link to the Boston Globe’s Web Site showing newly found photos of the Korean War.

The link is: Korean War Be warned some of these pictures are quite graphic.

I received this note form Dennis Money.

I got this note from Sue Mitchell. It brought back memories of Home Service and those wonderful odors waifing up from their kitchen in the basement at 89 East Ave.

I was unable to use the recipe Sue scanned in for us, but I did get the cover

Pictures

Ray Sciarratta sent me some photos of a group get together in Sarasota, Fl. He didn’t identify anyone in the pictures or provide the date and location. So I only posted one of them.

Cook Book

Hi Tom--I have sent you an attachment that we thought you might want to publish in the Newsletter.  Bill brought this recipe book home to me probably in the 1960's when they still had an Appliance Division and published all kinds of nice books for the Homemaker.  As you can determine from the coloration of the book and the shape it is in, it has been used a great deal.  I used to make a lot of homemade bread in those days.  I would dare say that it was in the latter half of 1960 that I had time to make bread as our youngest child was young but in school then.  Needless to say, our family loved this venture of Mom's.  As a matter of fact I now have a Bread Machine and my bread that was made by hand always came out better than the machine bread.  Because I don't know how to get our Scanner to give me another attachment for the same e-mail, I will scan one part of the inside of the book and send you a second e-mail.

If these attachments don't come through, let me know and I will just print them and send them snail mail.   Sue Mitchell
