Florida Picnic Pictures

Seneca White Deer

It’s getting close, so you’d better start making your plans to attend. I don’t have the whole history of the Florida Picnic, but it was started as a meeting place for those snow birds who missed their old friends and to give the retirees who relocated to the warmth a chance to see some old friends.

This year the picnic is sponsored by Lee & Vi Harris, Jack & Chris Klein, and Don Jeerings.

I received the following information from Lee:

Please pass on that the event is scheduled for Monday, March 7, 2011 at Shelter #5, Lake Seminole Park, 10015 Park Blvd., Seminole, FL.  We expect to be set up to greet attendees by 10:00 a.m.  Those attending should bring their own food, drink and table serviceThere is plenty of table capacity within and outside the shelter.  For those so inclined, there are two large grills, each large enough for at least 6 people to cook at a time, located immediately adjacent to the shelter.  Charcoal for the fires and ice for any nonalcoholic drinks that attendees might bring will be available.

Those interested in enjoying more of the Florida sun may to bring lawn chairs.  You might also mention that sidewalks have been installed and the shelter has been extensively modified for handicap accessibility.

Everyone that can attend is encouraged to do so.  We look forward to seeing them.  It will be a great way to become reacquainted with many old friends.

Please note that this year you will need to bring your own food and drink. I hope you find the time to attend

Vera Bellows sent me some photos she had from the 2000 Florida Picnic. The number of people you see, represent  about the normal attendance.

I want you all to notice the lack of snow in the pictures and all the smiles.

Dennis Money sent me the fall issue of the newsletter put out by the Seneca White Deer, Inc.

Vietnam Memorial

Vietnam Wall

First click on a state.  When it opens, scroll down to the city and the names will appear.

Then click on their names.  It should show you a picture of the person, or at least their bio and medals. This really is an amazing web site.  Someone spent a lot of time and effort to create it.

I hope that everyone who receives this appreciates what those who served in Vietnam sacrificed for our country.

The link below is a virtual wall of all those lost during the Vietnam war with the names, bio's and other information on our lost heroes.  Those who remember that time frame, or perhaps lost friends or family can look them up on this site.  Pass the link on to others, as many knew wonderful people whose names are listed.

If this newsletter seems a little “light” it’s only because you guys didn’t do your job and keep me informed.
