The End of the Picnic Post Card Mailing

As you may or may not know, RG&E is having a cash pinch and is cutting back on expenses.  One of the expenses they are cutting back on is the cost of mailing the picnic post cards to all our members.

This year RG&E will not be mailing the Picnic Reminders for us.

We have about 1500 members in our database and at a cost of $.31 per postcard that would cost us about $465.00 just for the postage.  We don’t have that kind of money in the Club’s bank account. (And Arnie won’t reach into his pockets for the difference.)

Now it’s up to each and everyone of us to get out the word on the Picnic.  So pass along the picnic information to all our friends who don’t have email or web access..

Arnie and I are going through last year’s picnic attendance.  Anyone who attended last year will get a reminder.  Now if anyone who attended last year has an email address, they will not be getting a post card, just a special email with all the information.

We will then send the Picnic postcards to members who we do not have an email address for.  The only catch is that we will only send the postcards to people who live in the area.

So again I must ask each and everyone of you to reach out to those individuals who live out of state and might want to attend.

We haven’t got a lot of phone numbers for members, but we might try setting up a phone tree to see if we can notify those members who might fall through the cracks, if someone want to do it.

2009 Rochester Pioneer’s Picnic

This year's picnic will be on Thursday, August 6, 2009

We are again holding the picnic at the:

Barnard Exempt Party House,

360 Maiden Lane

from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

We feel that the facilities are centrally located and perfect for our needs. We also have received no complaints from anyone attending about the place.  So we booked it again for this year.

Arnie and I feel that holding it on the first Thursday in August will be easy for everyone to remember.  It also keeps us from competing with all the organizations that want to use picnic facilities on weekends.

The menu this year consists of:

Hot dogs (Red & White), Hamburgers, Grilled Chicken Breast, Rolls, Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Macaroni Salad, Milk, Tea, and Coffee, and Dessert, and Chips, Pretzels & Peanuts at the bar

The food will be available from  12:30 – 3 PM

From 1:00 to 2:00,

We will have the RG&E Big Band playing for your enjoyment.

It's buy your own adult refreshments and/or soft drinks, so don't forget to bring money.

For those of you that still are working, this is a perfect excuse for a days vacation (or some sick time!)

For tickets, you must send a check made out to the “Pioneers of RG&E” for $16.00 per person..  Then mail it to:

Arnie Stockslader

131  LeGran Rd

Rochester, NY  14617

We would like the checks in our hands by Thursday, July 16, 2009.  This will give us time to make sure there is enough food and drink for everyone attending.

Remember there will be no tickets sold at the door.  The caterer only brings enough food to feed the attendance we guaranteed by the end of July.

So let’s get out there and spread the word. It’s up to each and everyone of us to make sure our club continues.

And as always, Arnie and I are always looking for volunteers and or suggestions for this party.  You can email us at Arnie@thepioneersclub.org or Tom@thepioneersclub.org.

One of the things I hate about this newsletter is saying good-bye to old friends in the Obituary column.  Well this month I have the pleasure of reporting that two “old” friends got married!

Jim Camp and Sue Ritzenthaler tied the knot last February in Hawaii.

I don’t have any more information on it , but if they had invited me (and paid my way), I’m sure that I’d have taken a bunch of pictures some even of the wedding.

Seriously, I wish them all the best from all of us in the Pioneers Club.

The 2008 Rochester Picnic

The picnic started at 11:00 am.  I took this picture at 11:15. This is just an example of how early people started arriving.

This is a partial picture of the crowd.  This is about 1/8th of the people in the pavilion.  As you noticed, these people are doing what RG&E’ers do best.  EAT!!!

For more pictures of the 2008 Rochester Picnic, just click here and you’ll be taken to that section of our Web Site.

So grab your group and get out here this year.  You’ll be glad you did.

For those of you who have not already heard, our son, Derrick, who is a Senior Airman in the US Air Force currently serving in our nation's capital, will be re-deployed to Iraq sometime in August.  His tour is scheduled for six months and it appears that he will be doing police work on a military base.  We are very hopeful about the prospects, but we ask that you all keep him in your prayers.

From a Proud Father

As a veteran, I have a special place in my heart for those in harms way.

So when I received this note from Ken, I knew that I had to include it in this newsletter.

An Old Bill

Ray Sciarratta sent me this old bill stub.  It was due on 1/5/59.

I don’t know about you, but I wish mine was that cheap now.

Notice the kid jumping on the bell hose. I know you never did that.

Notice the Gas Prices on the sign!

I’d like to thank Vinnie Plumeri for sharing these photos with us.
