The Pioneer’s Club Newsletter

This is an “Old Style” Department get together.  The Information Systems people were the first group that was “downsized” when RG&E was purchased.  We were always a close group, so we still like to keep in touch.

This is our annual event. Anyone can attend.  We love to see old friends (and gossip about those who couldn’t make it this year.)

I’ve attached the flyer for more information.

Editor note:  If you have an event that you feel  would be of interest to our membership, drop me a note at tom@thepioneersclub.org.

Birthday wishes go out to our December babies.

Remembrances of the Jefferson Road Distribution Center

I received an email from Dave Whitlock last month.  I think it reflects what a lot of us feel.

I’ll include it here.

The Missing Building

November 21, 2009

Tom, maybe folks would like to read sometime, maybe not, you know where “delete” is.  If of any value, edit and use, or delete.

When I drive down Henrietta Rd. sometimes, near the old Jeff. Rd. Distribution Center, I sometimes point to my wife and say, right there, where that store is, is where I once visited, as part of my RG&E marketing job, with many good folk, most retired or graduated on somewhere else.

And I can just see that old two-story brick building and that brings back many names of those good folk.  Since I tended to more on the gas side of things, I still had to deal with many electric people.  I’ll fire off a few names and will undoubtedly miss a ton.  You add some at a later date should you choose.

But, I think of areas, like the gas meter shop, the electric meter shop, and the gas training area.  Then the names pop up:  Gene Hess, Charlie Bodine, Dick Saunders, Bob Gustafson, Joe Romano, Vince Budney, John Geiss, Joe Fabrizi, Howie Monnat, Dave Shields, Jerry Bricks, Sharon Jarvie, Wally Straight, Joe Magro, Dick Rudman, Don Sweetland, Mario Silvestrone, Gordie Keenan, Bill Stein, Charlie Drons, Barb Mestler, Ron Schroeder, Jim DiStefano, Roger Butts, Bill Baker, Duane Piede, Marty Morris, Lee Loomis, Mike Adams, John Morgan, Pieter Punt, and on and on.

It was a good crew, it is great to remember the building, gone forever, and the good people that made it all work.  Too bad society, probably through the Clean Air Act of 1991, decided to radically change the old way.  Oh well, progress, I guess.

However, guess I’d best get over to Lowe’s and get my generator and pick up some firewood on the way home.  I don’t think a ’91 ice storm would go near as well now!

Veterans Day

November 11 was Veterans Day.  As an old Army veteran, this day is near and dear to my heart.

So I was pleased when I got this email from Dave Payne.

“We had an informal unannounced Veterans Day Service at the flag pole at Scottsville Rd.  Ray Dunn brought a wreath for the flag pole.  The flag was displayed at half mast.  Ray led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and then he did a presentation honoring our living and fallen veterans.  I followed with Taps and then Ray led a prayer.  Charlie Sankevicus, Mary Havasi, Karen Douglas and Stephanie Hughes were present for the service.”

He attached the following pictures.

Thanks guys, for remembering.

I received this Power Point presentation from Vinnie Pulmeri last month.  It reminds us of the sacrifices made on our behalf for the American way of life on September 11.

If you have a Power Point Viewer on your PC just click the picture to start the show. If not the viewer is a free download from Microsoft.com.

Don’t Ever Forget

Benefits

For those of you that have followed my rants about getting my address changed by Benefits, well it happened.

I got a phone call from Binghamton right after last months issue about my “rant”. It was from the woman who manages that operation.  She apologized for my problems, and got it changed for me.

To her, I say thank you.

But one of the things I had to promise is not to mention her name, phone number, or email address.  (I guess she didn’t want to be overwhelmed with calls).  But one of the things that came out of our conversation, is the fact that they get “hundreds” of calls in that voice mail box every day, and attempt to complete them with in seven days.  So if you call and nothing happens, call back within a couple of weeks.  They have a system that logs the date and times of your calls.

Format

Last month I mentioned that the hard drive I store my Pioneers Club stuff was acting up and I couldn’t get to my templates for this newsletter.

Well my drive is on vacation in California (lucky drive) now being fixed.  I hope to have it back by our next issue.

RG&E News

Barry Nenno and I made another “raid” on the RG&E News archives.  Barry is in the process of converting them into a format for the web site.

As soon as he’s done, I’ll start putting them up on the web site.

I attempt to put them up as quickly as possible, but I must admit that I get caught up in reading them and remembering or history.  So it takes a little longer than it should.

Holidays

On behalf of Arnie, Barry, and all others who help to keep the club alive, I wish each and everyone of you a happy holiday season.—Tom
