I must start this newsletter by apologizing for being so late.  My little 10 year old server picked July to finally to finally die.  And this time it was fatal.  It was just too old to repair.  So it took almost three weeks for a new one to arrive, another week to get the software installed and running, and then another week to recover all the backups that I needed. And then there was the picnic happening right in the middle of all this mess.

So anyway here it is the middle of August, and I’m finally getting ready to write this newsletter.

Just a word of warning, I lost a lot of the articles I had planned for this issue, as well as any changes or additions to the email list from July 17 to now.  So if you hear of anyone complaining they didn’t receive this newsletter, let me have their new address and I’ll update their information.

Sorry, Tom

Seneca White Deer

I received the following Email from Dennis Money, another RG&E retiree.

“I am sending you in advance, information on the upcoming fall tours of the Seneca Depot. Once we go public they will sell out quickly once again, hence your early notification. This fall we will be able to visit the inside of an igloo and also we will have two bus options: the standard school bus and the new professional tour bus. The registration form provides the details and also the directions to the staging area at the Varick VFD.

Please feel free to inform others as we have only a fixed number of seats available and it will be first come, first serve.

Seneca White Deer is proud to promote the fabulous Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.

Now I have not had time to take this tour, but from friends, I’ve heard that it is fabulous.

The following information posters were attached.

Coming Events

The Big Band has a few concerts coming up.

We hope you can attend.

Thanks to everyone who made this years picnic a success from the Welcome Table workers to the crew that set up the band’s tent.  Arnie and I appreciate all your help.

I haven’t gotten the pictures from so I can’t show you all, but here are a few I took.

The first two pictures are of the Welcome Table hard at work.

The next picture was taken at about 10:30.  The picnic did not start until 11:00.  I took this picture to show just how many people arrived early.

Roy Chugg brought some of his extensive collection of model trucks to share with us.  Arnie and I did not realize how big his collecting actually was, so we only brought one card table.  Roy had brought enough trucks to fill three card tables with him. I wish that we had had more room for them to all be displayed.

In last month’s newsletter, I reported that Dick was undergoing a lung transplant in Cleveland.

I’m sorry to report that Dick did not make it.  Dick was a good friend. We worked together in Customer Service for 30 years.

I received the poster below from one of his friends.

The email to which the poster was attached said:

“A group of us are holding a memorial for Dick on Sunday 9-13 to help raise money to cover some of the non-medical expenses they incurred. Attached is a flyer that we put together.

It would be great if you could get this out to the RG&Eers.

If anyone wants to attend they can contact Jim Johnson at jim.johnson@lechase.com.”

This year we had a 50/50 raffle to help cover the costs of mailing the post card to all our members without email addresses at the picnic.

The winners were Charlie Platt and Dave Platt.

Honest! A father and son won. And to add to the uniqueness both tickets were bought by the son Dave Platt.

We’d like to thank everyone who participated.

I know the print is small, but you should be able to increase the font size in your email reader if you’re having difficulty..

If you can’t see the price, it’s only $15.00 for adults, $12.00 for Seniors. And $7.00 for kids (6-11) in the school bus.

For the Tour Bus, it’s about $5.00 more.

Vera dropped me a couple of notes this past month on the goings on of some of our members.

First there was the note that Bonnie Litto to a new location in Haines City, Florida. So update your address books.

The next news item concerns Dan Paprocki.  He became a proud grandfather of Madison on or around July 23, 2009.
