I found myself updating the Obituary page again last month.

Howard H. Monnat-Irondequoit, NY, November 13, 2008.  Howard was a retiree of Gas M & O and a WWII veteran.

Lynnette M. "Lynn" Vidas - Livona, NY, November 16, 2008 at the age of 54.  Lynn was an active employee with 35 years of service.

They will be missed by all who knew them.

Fall and Winter Activities

The activities keep rolling in.

This month I heard from Dennis Gent. A group of  "old" Ginna retirees is meet at Bob's Diner in Suburban Plaza on East Henrietta Rd. on the third Wednesday of every month at 9AM.

I also got an email from Bill and Sue Mitchell about a possible get-together in Florida in February or March of 2009.

“Bill and I have talked about getting Retirees from RG&E together once again at the Flying Bridge Restaurant at Osprey, FL.  We did this for a number of years until it kind of petered out.  We would be willing to make the arrangements again, but only if enough people were interested.  We know the cost of gas and the economy in general may be a deterrent, but even so, maybe we all need an opportunity to greet old friends and have some good laughs. We would probably arrange this for February or March.  If you would be so kind as to put this in the next Newsletter, we would be very appreciative.  If those interested would contact us at the address below, we can determine the possibilities from that.

I think we are both feeling rather glum at the passing of Bill Bellows and also Red Martin.  We feel we should take the opportunity to get together with our friends as often as possible, because none of us are getting younger--just older.  Hopefully, we are getting wiser with age! Click Me!  If we have sufficient number of people interested, we will go to the Flying Bridge and get information regarding the menu and costs if possible “

Here’s their email address and express your interest.

For the last five years, Al Oliver and I have hosted a small Christmas Party for all our friends and fellow co-workers from the IS side of the company.  Since most of us have either retired or moved on to other employers, this is our chance to talk about all the good old times.  The party is nothing formal.  We all meet at a bar, buy our own adult beverages, and split the costs of the nibbles.

This year we are all meeting at JG Crummer’s, 1665 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY (just past Panorama Plaza and across the street from Delta Sonic).

Anyone wishing to come and see some of your old friends is welcome to attend.  We’ll be there from about 5:30 until we peter out (which gets earlier as we get older) on Thursday, December 11, 2008.

There’s also a Christmas Open House, and the proceeds go to a very worthy cause.

“In the current Pioneers' Newsletter you asked to be informed of activities to include in future issues.  Well, I have a great one for you!  Each year at Christmas time, Charlie Venishel (current employee & Foreman for Gas Crews - Eastern Monroe) and his wife, Cora, sponsor a "Holiday Open House" in their home at 100 Henderson Drive in Penfield.

Charlie & Cora decorate their home with thousands of lights inside and out with rooms and rooms of Department 56 miniature villages.

Also, Santa and Mrs. Claus are there for the kids (of all ages) along with the Snow Queen and, this year  Old Man Winter makes an appearance (formerly, Kenny, the Parking Lot Elf, Third Class) and other "Elfen Helpers."

This year it’s Saturday and Sunday, December  6th, 7th, 13th and 14th from 6:00PM to 9:00 PM.

And it’s $3.00 at the door and the proceeds go to the Rochester Ronald McDonald House.

This is a great thing to do with the “grand kids” and it benefits a worthy cause.”

Let’s keep those activities coming . If you want something added, just email me at:

As I promised last month, here’s more information on the email addresses that are available from The Pioneer’s Club.

The first thing you ask is why another address? I already have one.  But wait until you move to a new area, and find yourself with a new email address.  Off you go sending email to all your friends, advising them of your new email address.  But wait! Someone always gets forgotten, or they lose the new address.

Or you get everybody notified, when you realize that you must change ISPs and start the process all over again.

If you get an email address through us (example@ThePioneersClub.org), then you never have that problem again.  As long as you have an internet connection you can get to a PioneersClub.org address.  You can use your web browser and just type http://mail.thepioneersclub.org, sign in, and your there.  If you’re so inclined, you can use one of your favorite email clients (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.) also.

If you would like to see what you’re getting, I’ve created a sample email account you can play with.  Fire up your web browser and type http://mail.thepioneersclub.org in the address line.  When you get to the sign-on screen the username is example-

and the password is Example1.  You can play all you want.

And remember the best part, it’s free!

Now we are allowed 1000 email address, so there should be enough to go around.  There are a few used already, like Tom@thepioneersclub.org, and Arnie@thepioneersclub.org (first come first serve).  If you’d like a pioneers club email address, just send Arnie or me an email and include what you would like for a name and we’ll set one up for you.

Veterans Day

I forgot to put a Veteran’s Day Remembrance in last months newsletter.  But this doesn’t mean I forgot Veteran’s Day, and I hope you didn’t either.

The Vet’s Club and The Pioneer’s Club members did not put on a formal this year.  Let’s hope that next year we will be able hold one.

I have the web site back up and running after the move.  The only page that doesn’t work is the Calendar page which I’m working on.

Try it, the response time is excellent.

Season’s Greetings

Arnie and I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday

season.
