Pioneer’s Club News

The 2007 Rochester Picnic is in the history books.

We had about 230 members  in attendance at the Barnard Firemen’s Exempt on Maiden La in Greece.

There are a few pictures on the web site of some of the attendees.  But we’re always looking for more.  So if you took any or know of anyone else who did, we’d love to be able to post them on our web site.

First I’d like to thank Ron Johnson and Tom Slader for keeping this picnic alive.  After RG&E changed hands the Company sponsorship of this event stopped.  Ron and Tom took over the organization of this party and kept it going when no one else did.

Thanks guys for a job well done.

I don’t know how the food went over with everyone, but it got all eaten up!  So it must have passed the muster using that as a    measurement.

I think the cater did an excellent job, both with the preparation and service.

The only event that worried me was when the power to the complex went out.  I thought the beer would get warm!  But we were saved by the electric side of the company restoring the service to the area.

The weather cooperated and it was another “Hot” year.  I always worry about it raining, but so far so good.

I know I’m harping, but I’d like to get everyone's personal information.

The reason is that at present RG&E maintains the retirees list.  That list only consists of individuals who retired from RG&E.  If the employee was transferred to Energy East or “sold” with Ginna, we have no way of contacting them anymore.

If RG&E changes hands again and the new company does not want to maintain the “list”, then we have no way of contacting you.

So get your email address to either Arnie or myself and we’ll e-mail you an information form.

Why E-mail?

The Club does not charge anything to belong, but the US Post Office does charge for their services.  (I tried to get Arnie to get another job to pay for all this, but you should have heard what he called me!)

So to keep it free, we are using e-mail as a way to communicate with everyone.

We created a web site to spread the word.  It’s address is WWW.THEPIONEERSCLUB.ORG

.

We are also collecting all the photos you have that are willing to share with us.  We are looking for pictures from past picnics, department events, equipment, structures, the Children’s Christmas Party, The RG&E Day at Sea Breeze, and anything you might want to share.

I am trying to maintain an Obituary Page. I scan the Rochester D&C everyday for familiar names or the RG&E as a work location.  I don’t get any notifications from anyone.  If you know of a fellow employee I missed, please drop me a note.  We don’t want our friends to go unremembered.

So far we have lost 16 fellow employees in 2007.

Personal Information

I don’t have any information yet on any of the details of the Florida Picnic.   As soon as they are available, I will let everyone know.

Reporters Wanted

Just like the old RG&E news, we need your help to find out what’s going on.

If you have any news that you feel is “fit to print”, just drop me an e-mail with the information and I’ll include it in the next issue.

Speaking of the next issue, I’m not sure when I’ll be writing another one.  It really depends on you guys supplying me with stuff to print.

Retirement Party

Gene Coons is having a Retirement Party !  I guess that means he’s retiring.
