******--Peg Dolan *******************Peg and Chuck Parnell
Some of the people who helped put this album together.
Many popular guest artists round out the music on this album of Irish tunes - songs of love,
joy, struggle, despair, and hope. A sixteen page insert provides the lyrics as well as
photos of all the musicians. Peg performs not only the guitar and vocals, but tin whistle,
mandolin, and bodhran - others supply the pipes, cello, flute, button accordion, bass,
concertina, and fiddle! Simply a great album!
"I have a soft spot for
Rochester, what with the Raging
Rhinos, photography, and a
certain guitar store. And now I can
add something else - local musician Peg Dolan.
The Missing
Peace, her third album, is a collection of eight traditional and
six contemporary songs ranging
from the Coulter/Furey masterpiece "Steal Away" to standards
such as "Brennan on the Moor,"
from lesser-heard 'oldies' like
"Mairi's Wedding" to new (at
least, to me) gems like John
Duhan's "The Voyage."
Instrumentally, arrangements
are kept simple - usually guitar
and bass with occasional whistle,
pipes, cello, flute, mandolin,
concertina and accordion. The
strength of this recording lies in
the beauty of Peg's voice. There
is a feeling of sadness tinged
with strength which encourages
the lyrics to burst into infectious
life."
