Sylvia Barker, as Martian The Storyteller, has been entertaining listeners for thirty-five years. Having performed from Rochester, NY, to New Orleans, LA, Martian specializes in turning "Fairy Tales into Urban Tales" - telling stories for the modern child and adult, ages 8 through 108.

As a modern day storyteller, Martian customizes her stories for every performance and audience. Always adding tales to her repertoire, Martian has a wide range of subjects to choose from in designing every program - comfortably appealing to all cultures and ages. Martian has performed in the local school library as well as at Jimmy Buffett's famous Margaritaville Restaurant - from coffeehouses to classrooms, adult homes to festivals (notably the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival), Sylvia Barker's character Martian has entertained and enlightened.

Ms. Barker is the recipient of many awards for her talent and community involvement, from institutions as diverse as The Living Arts Center, The Rochester Public Library Authors' Day, The Girl Scouts of America, Freddie Thomas Fellow, among many others. She is a member of several associations, including the National Storytellers Association, The National Association of Black Storytellers, The Black Storytellers League, and The Bibliophile Society, to mention a few.
