So much emphasis is placed on what kids do wrong, that the folks at the Rochester, New York, Police Department thought it was time to start acknowledging what kids do right.
Taking a lead from Miami's Police Department, the Rochester Police kicked off the "Do The Right Thing" program in September of 1995. It's a simple idea, really...to seek outstanding young people in the community who have distinguished themselves as role models among their peers, whether they improved their grades, helped others with everyday chores, or were just a friend to someone in need.Five students from grades K - 12   are selected each month to receive the award, which is presented at a special ceremony in the Rochester Police Department Public Safety Building.
